Congratulations to Cypress College’s 2018 Precision Flying Team for earning top honors for two-year colleges at the National Intercollegiate Flying Association’s Region II Safe Con competition. The event was held November 13-17, 2018 at Ernest A Love Field Airport, in Prescott, AZ. The hard work and dedication from our flying team members and instructors brought in a big win for Cypress College Flight Training, placing first at this year’s NIFA Safe Con in the Two-Year Community College Division. In addition to the first-place win, several Cypress College students surpassed competitors from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Two aviation students, Anond and Noel, finished in the top 10 of the combined university and two-year standings. Cypress College finished second in the flight events for university/two-year standings, and fourth overall against seven colleges in one of the most challenging divisions of the NIFA Safe Con. Students compete in categories such as navigation, landing, instrument precision, and message drop. Anond finished second in the power-off landing competition and Noel earned bronze in the short-field landing competition. The first five places of these events are usually won by Embry-Riddle, but Cypress College’s amazing pilots prevailed and landed themselves on the leader board.
